AT%26amp;T and Verizon are always bragging about having the better 3G coverage and Sprint is already on the 4G network...so why dont they move to 4G as well?What's the difference between 3G %26amp; 4G cell phone carriers?
4G stands for 4th generation cell phone network. The 3rd generation network carried broadband speeds, like a dsl or cable modem. The 2nd generation network has slower speeds more like a dial-up modem.
The 4G network is supposed to bring much higher speeds than already exist for the 3G network - the kind of speed you might find at a university computer lab, or the speed of communications between computers in a LAN network. It features speeds in the 100,000-1,000,000 kilobit (100-1000 Mbit) range, or about 20x as fast as 3G.
Downloads would be nearly instantaneous, and really large files such as a CD or DVD worth of data can be downloaded in less than a minute. And that might be worth it if you download Huge amounts of data (or for instance HD video) on a regular basis, and you're not happy with 3G speeds.
